Normas Regulamentadoras (Brazilian occupational safety standards)

NR-1 — General Provisions and Occupational Risk Management
The central standard. It establishes the GRO and the PGR and, as amended by Portaria MTE nº 1.419/2024 (enforceable since May 2026), now expressly includes psychosocial risk factors within the mandatory scope of identification, assessment and control.

NR-17 — Ergonomics
It deals with adapting working conditions to workers' characteristics. This is the standard that requires the organisation of work to be considered — pace, hours, task content, cognitive aspects — the basis for psychosocial analysis.

Worker health

Portaria GM/MS nº 1.999/2023 — List of Work-Related Diseases (LDRT)
It updated the LDRT, cataloguing pathologies together with the risk factors of the working environment — psychosocial factors included. It is the reference that ties working conditions to health outcomes.

CLT — Consolidation of Labour Laws (Decreto-Lei nº 5.452/1943)
The foundation of Brazilian labour law. Among other things, it assigns the risks of the economic activity to the employer (art. 2) — the basis of the liability that makes psychosocial diagnostics strategic.

Lei nº 14.457/2022 — CIPA and tackling harassment
It turned the CIPA into the Internal Commission for the Prevention of Accidents and Harassment, and introduced mandatory measures to prevent and tackle sexual harassment and other forms of violence at work.
